smitten with caviar & oyster — new makeup palette by bobbi brown

I’ll confess: Makeup is my weakness. Well, makeup and diamonds fair just about equally, but makeup gets me in far less trouble with my husband! You can have your $3,000 handbags. I’d take that money and get a facial and indulge on high-end skincare product and a makeup shopping spree.

There’s something about a killer cream and super luxe makeup that make me feel pampered and put-together.

When I was pregnant and felt like a not-so-glowing giant beach ball with legs, a little bronzer and some gorgeous eye make up would make me feel like the prettiest gal on the planet (cankles and all).

That being said, I’ve found a new fall obsession:  Caviar & Oyster Palette by Bobbi Brown ($75).

Whether you’re going strong and smokey for a holiday party look or soft and pretty for daytime, you’ve got so many options with this palette. It features eight shadows, including rich caviar and pearlescent shades that range from plum to opal, pink, grey and white… plus Ballet Sparkle— a gorgeous sheer shimmer that you can wear on your eyes and sweep across your cheeks.

My favorite part is that you can mix & mach so many looks with this palette & tale your face from bold and sultry to shimmery soft all in one simple compact holder. Perfect for busy moms like me that have to apply their makeup in the car (I know, I know), or on the fly! TIP: It’s Limited Edition, so snatch it up while you can!

multi-use makeup

I’ll be real with you: I’m totally “that” woman. I’m the woman who does her makeup in the car. Mind you it’s not always while I’m the one driving, but that does happen. With two boys three and under and a hectic schedule, I’m lucky to leave the house with my clothes on straight. A well-made face would be way too much to ask for.

That being said, I’m always on the hunt for multi-use products that make applying makeup “on the fly” that much easier.

Here’s what I recently fell in love with:

M-A-C’s Mineralize Skinfinish Powder.

It’s a face powder with minerals that are slowly baked in. The line I’m in love with is perfect for summer with sparkly, toasty warm shades that just scream sun-kissed glow!

Besides, how can you go wrong with a color name like Center of the Universe?

This little powder is genius because you get the silky feel of mineral powder (without the mess) and the benefit of a bronzer without looking over the top.

PLUS, it’s layered with lighter and deeper tones, so you can do everything from swirl on an over-all color, or select from the shades to highlight or contour certain areas (which I do all the time to give my face the appearance that the svelte little cheekbones I had before I had two kids are somehow still there).

It’s $29 at M-A-C and considering it triples as a bronzer/highlighter/brush, it’s worth every penny!

ysl lip stain

Technically, it’s Yves Saint Laurent ’Rouge Pur Couture - Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain.

They’re YSL, so they can get away with that (more about why I love them here).

Just about every makeup manufacturer in the world has tried to perfect a long-wearing lipstick… and every single one I’ve tried so far has left me high and dry.

Enter YSL’s makeup masterpiece: Rouge Pur Couture - Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain.

It’s not just a long-wearing lip stain (score!), but it’s a legitimate gloss. That might not seem like a feat, but these two worlds just haven’t co-existed before (not successfully, at least). You had your lip stains (and your tortured lips) and you had your lip gloss.

A girl didn’t have a legitimate all-in-one.

It goes on light and has a super glassy finish. Super glassy. The gloss wears pretty solid and holds its shine.

But the best part is, when the shine ultimately dulls (nobody’s perfect), you’re left with a great stain.

Like an “Is she wearing lipstick or are her lips just blessed?” stain.

It comes in 18 shades and will run you $32.

The best part (well, besides the whole awesome glossy lips thing) is that it’s formulated with no: Parabens, Sulfates, Petrochemicals, no GMOs, etc.

Another reason to love YSL…

review: the eyes have it! YSL Touche Éclat highlighter rocks

This concealer & highlighter                                                                        by Yves Saint Laurent is worth every penny!

Between having dark circles from allergies & two kids under three years old (beauty sleep is underrated, right?), I’m always searching for beauty products that will mask my sleepy eyes.

Enter YSL’s Touche Éclat. This magic little wand is a highlighter, concealer and camouflages fine lines.

YSL says you can “capture 8 hours of sleep with the click of a pen” (I would click just about anything to actually capture 8 hours of sleep!). After trying it, I’d say they’re on to something.

While it’s not always easy to plunk down $40 on a single beauty product, I’d say this one’s worth the investment.  I’ve tried so many under-eye concealers that actually end up settling chalky, look completely unnatural or actually end up making fine lines more obvious.

With a few clicks and the right application (in a V under my eye, from the inside corner to the outside of my lower eyelid and under my brow), I look bright-eyed without looking overly made up.

Now maybe people will stop telling me that I look tired. Seriously. Who can have a baby kicking them in the face all night, a toddler up at 6 a.m. like an alarm clock, run a business and not look tired?

Dear YSL– have I told you lately that I love you?

all the small things: paper straws

It’s no secret that I’m OCD over the tiniest details when I entertain or do an event … all the way down to the straws. Yes, the straws.

One of my favorite little touches to add to my kids’ parties lately have been vintage-inspired paper straws. Just a few ways you can use them:

  • Serve lemonade and add them to the cups
  • Serve them with regular or chocolate milk in individual milk bottles (like I did for this milk & cookie bar)
  • Use them to dress up your tablescapes by setting your tables, complete with beverages (and, of course, straws)
  • Throw them in mason jars around your serving table or even as centerpieces to add pops of color
  • Throw flags on them and lable them with your guests’ names

The ideas are virtually never-ending. That being said, if you need to buy some (I’m asked all the time!) go here:

PinkLemonadeParty.

She always has what I’m looking for, responds immediate and ships quick! Plus, they’re a super affordable accessory you can add to any event to kick the details up a notch!

review: lighten up your face with covergirl natureluxe

Covergirl NatureLuxe Foundation When it comes to beauty products, I’m no stranger to the expensive variety (see my YSL concealer review here). That doesn’t stop me from searching for the best beauty bang for my buck. There are some great drugstore beauty products that often win my vote.

One winner is Covergirl’s NatureLuxe Silk Foundation. While I don’t typically wear foundation, I wanted to give this one a try because it was touted as lightweight and silky. While many beauty products don’t add up to their labels, I’m happy to report that this one actually does.

It’s lightweight, but still had great coverage. It goes on smooth, spreads evenly and it leaves a natural, dewy finish. Wear your exact color match for even color, or go one shade darker for a sun-kissed glow (I opt for this route). I wear it before I head out shopping, when I’m going to be outdoors… on days that I want a touch up without looking made up. The real test? My husband (who’s typically not so interested in my beauty product obsession outside of how much I spent!) loves it. He actually noticed the first time I wore it and asked what I’d done differently.

It comes in 14 different shades and retails for under $10!

A C-Section Mom’s BFF

My journey to a C-Section is a whole other Oprah that I plan to tackle later, but I couldn’t pass up sharing these little saviors.

As I was contemplating my likely C-Section (my second one), HipMamaB (@hipmamab) recommend that I check out C-Panty. Desperate for anything with the word “slimming” and “comfort” after major abdominal surgery, I grabbed a couple online.

I didn’t try them until two weeks later (I’m a chicken and the idea of rolling anything up over my tummy terrified me), but when I finally tried them I wish I’d worn them from the get-go. They’re comfy, they hold you in (can’t stress how important that is), and the little silicon section actually feels good on your scar. And let’s face it, while they do come up to your bra, they’re about as sexy as you can get post C-Section especially when giant net hospital panties are the alternative!

The style I used was “TummyCut Incision Care” (Sounds sexy, right?). They’re $47.50 per pair and IMHO, worth every penny.

I heart this

when we were in kauai last summer, lil man was playing with a bucket of sand and popped up with this heart on his chest. completely accidental, and completely perfect.
